Bassini: 'We Will Never Move From Vicarage Road

Prospective new Hornets owner Laurence Bassini has told the Watford Observer that he has no plans to move Watford FC from Vicarage Road.

Bassini who reportedly is interested in buying the club with friend Panos Thomas has dimissed the rumours. He stated 'If an offer was forthcoming from me we will never move, that is the last thing that would happen'.

Bassini also denied reports that there were six people involved in the possible takeover and reiterated that it is only him and Panos Thomas, an orthopaedic surgeon, will be involved in their bid.

Bassini in an open and honest interview confirmed that he changed the spelling of his last name (from Bazini) when he was declared bankrupt in 2007.

Bassini was declared bankrupt when a hotel project spotted by his father went wrong. 'I was on benefits for a short time of five or six months' Bassini said.

He also confirmed that he was from a wealthy family but denied they would be putting any money into Watford FC.

Bassini also went on to say that he had an opportunity to buy Blackburn Rovers last year before the Venky's took over the club.

Bassini also claims he is a fan of Watford and has attended every game this season stating 'For me it is nice to be involved with this club. It has that family feel and I am into that. It has the family atmosphere, the people here are good people."

Being a bankrupt millionaire is different to mere mortals declaring bankruptcy I see..on benefits for 5 months and a couple of years later, you have millions to buy a club. Something not quite right me thinks...

I think that was great investigative work to find out about the pub and hotel bankruptcy. On a personal level, I don’t think that WFC know anything about this man. The fact is Mr Bassini tried to deceive them by giving a different name. I did a lot of research on our friend Mr Bassini. I discovered that he also bought 2 cafes a couple of years ago and these both went into liquidation last year – They were named Blooms and the ones I researched were in Edgware and Golders Green. Apparently he is well known and loathed within his community. Please don’t quote me on this, but it seems that whoever actually knows this guy says to steer clear of him. His own community will confirm that this man lies, he cheats and he doesn’t care about anything or anyone nor what happens to them. The sad thing is, he actually thinks he is above everyone else. I do not believe that Mr Bassini owns any assets – in fact I KNOW he does not own any assets. Taking into account the two cafes that went into liquidation (yet again) last year, I think it would be prudent for WFC to satisfy its supporters, by asking Mr Bassini’s to provide proof of his assets ranging back 3 years. I would bet my last dollar, he would refuse to show this. My research also tells me that he does not even own his own property. The fact he owns no assets and is quite used to going bankruptcy and with the new law stating that he may be discharged within a year – this is all so important in using him as a frontman. Maybe Panos has just been taken in by this conman like lots before Panos. If the funding is coming from “rich” family, then why are they not buying the club? My feelings are, they or someone is just using a person such as Mr Bassini who is an accomplished failure for their own good. What’s another bankruptcy to Mr Bassini. I don’t believe its his family at all, and reality I don’t think they are wealthy enough. Its someone else. He’ll be clear again in a year – especially as I know he has no assets so nothing can be ceased. But where does that leave WFC? Good job Mr Bassini supports Tottenham. And thats the truth!

I share your concerns footy, but due diligence carried out lord A's advisors will confirm as to weather he is a fit and proper person, to go bankrupt is not an opt out, he has to find 10 to 15 million to buy the club in the first place. Do you really think that some one who invests that kind of money is gonna walk away if it goes wrong?
19/02/2011 20:31:00
Take your points re. walking away Andy but I still worry about the little we do know about his background, and the fact he changed his name following bankruptcy. Seems a very dicey character based on that.

Let's not make another mistake which can hurt our club...

I share all your concerns, things do not add up, bassini is not a director of the newly formed business looking to buy the club, maybe he is getting his five mins of fame, I think it's safe to assume that these 2 guys do not have 15 million plus to buy the club and the bonds etc. So some one or a business is going to have to invest that amount in the possible new owners! You wouldn't be lending that kind of money without guarantees, it's a case of wait and see, sadly 1881 it's not our mistake to be made.
