'If It's Football, It's Vital'

International Hornets round-up #2

A bumper evening for Watford's academy as they rescue the home nations at various levels!

Not only did striker Marvin Sordell mark his first England U20's call-up by starting, the pacey forward grabbed himself a goal on his international debut. Sadly the U20's went down 2-1 at the hands of France at Shrewsbury Town's ground.

Nigel Worthington used both Lee Hodson and Adam Thompson for his Northern Ireland side as they got off to the worst possible start in the Carling Cup of Nations, losing 3-0 to Scotland in Dublin.

Hodson came on at half time for Rory McArdle to claim his second full Northern Ireland cap, whilst fellow ex-academy man Adam Thompson won his maiden cap off the bench replacing the experienced Stephen Craigan with 26 minutes to go.

Recently-returned loanee Rob Kiernan got 90 minutes under his belt for the Eire U21's as they drew a blank against their Cypriot counterparts.

With regards to certain ex-'Orns, Ashley Young hit the headlines handing England a deserved victory in Denmark.

A half-time sub, the Villa winger looked bright in his 45 minutes and went on to slot home a cool winner from close range, beating Stoke stopper Thomas Sorensen at his near-post.

It was EIGHT years ago he stabbed home against Millwall on his then 'Nationwide Division One' debut for the Goldenboys. How times change!

Congratulations to all involved in the international fixtures this week, and here's to many more!
