Mutch to return to Brum

Malky Mackay will start the New Year with a dilemma as Jordon Mutch will return to parent club Birmingham on January 5th.

The recently-turned 19 year-old has had an impressive six-month loan spell at Vicarage Road making 19 starts for the Goldeboys, coming off the bench twice and scoring an impressive five goals from the centre of the park.

Speaking to the Birimngham City Official Site his manager Alex Mcleish confirmed the former Derby County youngster would be returning to St Andrews, hopefully to pen a new deal:

I spoke to Malky and said we would probably be calling him back.

'I will have a further chat with Jordon to see what he wants.

'He's out of contract in the summer and we really need to get him signed up and then we can decide what he wants to do as much as we want to do.

'We think he has got a bright future and we want him to be signed.

'We have been in touch with the agents regarding a contract.'

This news leaves Malky Mackay with a seemingly straight choice between Academy product Ross Jenkins, who made only his third league appearance of the season on Tuesday, or Josh Walker, recently re-called from Stevenage.

Walker would seem a more natural replacement as a marauding midfielder happy and comfortable contributing in all phases of play whilst Jenkins seems the long-term heir apparent to John Eustace at the base of the midfield.

We shall however have to wait and see. Andrew Taylor's loan at Vicarage Road expires in early January as well.
