Watford Football Club are apparantly in talks with members of the Watford Ultra group in a bid to seat them together at Vicarage Road so that they can stand and sing together.
Some supporters have already had their say on the negative aspects of the group and expressed concerns about the nature of it. Watford FC have advised the group to drop the 'Ultra' part of their title in an attempt to rid the group of the negative connotations surround 'ultras'.
The aim of the group is to congragate together for home matches so that they can sing, stand up and display banners and flags, in effect creating a singing/standing area.
This proposal has been muted at other clubs particularly in the Premiership but has never come to fruition. It seems the the group are supporters who want more of an atmosphere at the Vic.
It is no lie that their is a low key atmosphere at the Vic on matchdays and this could be helped by grouping people wanting to sing together. It also appears that creating an intimidating atmosphere and violence are NOT on the agenda of the group.
Despite the fact that the group could be targeted for violence by rival supporters getting the wrong impression i don't find there is anything fundamentally wrong with the idea in principle.
I have always stood by the opinion of it is up to each individual whether they want to sing or not and if those that do want to congregate together to create a better atmosphere then who is anybody else to complain. Much like some supporters may not wish to sing throughout the game surely they should not be denying other paying customers that do the opportunity.
Should the said group be granted the opportunity to stand together, the situation would clearly need to be monitored by the football club and the police but provided no violence was to escalate from it, then it is surely a good opportunity to give each paying customer what they want and get a good atmosphere going at the Vic.
