Walker: 'I should've played more at Watford'

Two days after firing League Two side Stevenage into the F.A Cup 3rd Round, Hornet's midfielder Josh Walker has revealed his frustration at his start to life in WD18.

The young midfielder made the switch from Teeside to Hertfordshire in August but is yet to make his full Hornet's debut because 'of the form of other midfielders'. So out the loop is the England Youth cap that when skipper John Eustace was suspended, striker Troy Deeney dropped into midfield leaving Walker once again on the bench.

"If I'm honest, I feel like I should have played more than I have for Watford." Walker told Sky Sports News

Restricted to just four substitute appearances totalling just 28 minutes of league action for his new club. The improved form of loanee Jordon Mutch hasn't helped his case but with fellow rival for the shirt Ross Jenkins injured until recently, Walker was the senior midfield option.

However, a loan spell with Stevenage may just ignite the former Rotherham, Aberdeen and Bournemouth midfielder's season.

A goal and man-of-the-match award live on television, on debut for Stevenage may have Malky Mackay sitting up and taking notice:

"I've only been here for a couple of days but it feels like I've been here all season, the lads are different class and the camaraderie is brilliant."

Speaking about January, when his loan deal expires, Walker said: "But I just want to enjoy my football for now and see what happens when my loan runs out in January.

"Whether I stay here or go back to Watford, I just want to be playing at as high a level as I can."

You do have to admire the fact that Walker wasn't prepared to sit on the bench here picking up his wages and move to a club newly promoted to the Football League in order to get game time. It was after all, only a couple of seasons ago he was at then Premier League 'Boro.
