Sarries Will Leave Next Summer

Three months after first instigating the break clause in their contract with Saracens, Watford have announced today that the rugby club will leave next Summer.

The Hornet's today announced that with talks between Saracens and other parties well under way they would 'fully exercise' the break clause meaning their tenant's will now definitely leave in the Summer of 2011.

'We're very comfortable with our decision and it's timing.' Said chairman Graham Taylor.

'Now we want to push forward with the plans we have been starting to formulate that explore revenue streams open to us once Saracens are no longer here.' Said the Hornet's legend.

Saracens had previously been paying the Hornet's shy of 500k a season in rent and the two sides had been at loggerheads over the rent as well as differing ideas for the development of the decrepit East Stand.

I think its a shame that the Sarries are off as I'm sure their contribution of even half a million is not to be sniffed at; but realistically its pretty cheap to play at a Top 30 Football Club stadium. I also think its a shame because if they had stayed there was a solid hope that they would work with WFC to get the East side sorted out - certainly everyone must have been hoping that would be a positive point. Its been entertaining stuff though, particularly early on; Good Luck Sarries - but you'll now have to pay the going rate !

All roads lead to Barnet according to those in the know (and Sarries official website) - Apparently the egg chasers are going to redevelop the old Copthill Stadium and make it home!

If that happens, which is seems increasingly likely it will, Barnet will be fuming on the grounds they were denied planning permission for the same site about nine years ago. Agree with oldyella that half a million is not to be sniffed at but frankly, we can make that up by selling somebody without losing out on running costs/pitch condition.
