'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Forest winger: 'Watford long-ball team'

You have to wonder if Paul Anderson or indeed 99% of the Football League's managers and players have actually watched Malky Mackay's young Hornet's since November 2008.

It was two years ago that self-confessed long-ball merchant Aidy Boothroyd left the club, since then Malky Mackay (twice) and Brendan Rodgers have taken charge of the Golden Boys and both have preached the message of keeping the ball on the deck and playing attractive, entertaining football.

By no means football to the Arsenal or Barcelona degree of pass-and-move perfection but still far, far removed from the days of Aidy Boothroyd.

However, this patently obvious change in style and emphasis does not stop opposition players and coaching staff labelling the Hornet's as a long-ball side at every available opportunity. Usually after getting a poor result against the 'Orns - spot the correlation?

The latest if former Liverpool Academy graduate, Paul Anderson who said the following: 'Watford are one of those route one sides who like to be a bit physical.

"We can be more physical and mean."
He added.

Yes, the Hornet's are happy to get stuck in, the likes of Danny Graham, John Eustace, Don Cowie and Martin Taylor love a challenge and personally as a fan I demand the blood-and-guts passion and commitment ALONGSIDE attractive, creative, exciting football.

We do launch the odd long ball, but usually in the last ten when we're behind, much like any club in the country bar Arsenal in fact.

So journalists, fans, players, managers and coaching staff. Come down to the Vic', watch a game and I think you'll find the humble pie on offer most enjoyable.
