Malky backs McGinn to deputise for Cowie

With Don Cowie sidelined for up to six weeks a chance has been thrown up for somebody to fill in for the Scotland international.

Speaking to the The Watford Observer, Malky Mackay revealed that he expects Stephen McGinn to fill in for the former Inverness wideman.

McGinn, formerly of St Mirren, has started admirably with two goals in as many games since Cowie was withdrawn in the first half at Portsmouth last Saturday.

'One player coming out means someone else has the chance to go in and Stephen McGinn is someone who has been unlucky not to start more games this season.

"Any time Stephen has come in he has been fantastic and he started the season very well. He went away on international duty, did well for Scotland Under-21s and has come back and scored two goals in his last two games.

"I have been impressing on him to get into the box and stamp his authority on games so I am delighted he has risen to the challenge."

Since joining the Hornet's in January the 21 year-old has made 20 appearances for the club, the goals against Portsmouth and Ipswich Town his only strikes for the club.
