Ashton: We`ve got transfer targets

Watford chief executive Mark Ashton has indicated that there will be new faces at Vicarage Road in the coming weeks.

"Directly after the Leeds game in Cardiff, we made enquiries about a number of players," Ashton told the club`s official site.

"We got the reactions that we expected so we're now pursuing a number of names on several fronts. We're hopeful that we'll be announcing some new players at Vicarage Road in the near future," said the man who was instrumental in bringing Aidy Boothroyd to Vicarage Road. "I've just come back from a week's break and Aidy is back too so we're ready to begin the next stage of our planning for the new season."

"On the player front, Aidy has a number of targets so we've got a number of irons in the fire but I still can't really say who they are at the moment - that would be unprofessional," Said Ashton. "We're now in a position to move forward on those fronts in the coming days and weeks."

With the World Cup and holidays for players and managers the transfer market is notoriously quiet at this time of year. Ashton explained: "It's a difficult time at the moment because the World Cup is on so a lot of managers are focusing on that. Many of them are out there at the moment looking at players. On top of that, most players are on holiday and even a lot of agents are away so we're in a bit of a lull."

u really do need to bring in a few quality players if u want to have a chance of staying up

I agree Green Giant - I think you should raid a few prem clubs, and nick some players with experience, but dont play enough to want to stay at their clubs!

I think that goes for any club in the premiership. You have to spend money just to stand still with the majority of clubs.
