Fans: Watford will stay up

Fans: Watford will stay up

Over two thirds of fans who voted in our online poll believe that Watford will retain their Premiership status.

The Golden Boys will be hoping to defy convention as 19 of the 41 teams promoted to the Premier League have been relegated the following season.

However, four promoted clubs have finished in the top five in their first season in the Premier League. These are Blackburn Rovers (1993), Newcastle United (1994), Nottingham Forest (1995) and Ipswich Town (2001).

Watford are only the sixth club in the 20 year history of the play-offs to finish third and gain promotion via the play-offs. Eight play-off winners have been relegated in the first season in the top-flight, yet only two of these have been in the past six seasons.

Wigan had a lot more cash than Watford. You do have a quality manager though, and hungry players, so I don't see why you wouldn't stay up. I think a couple of the sides hanging around relegation the last few seasons could well go down next year. You have as good a chance as Reading at staying up.

19 out of 41 is hardly a convention, in fact that is less than half, so if your statistics are correct, you have a better than 50% chance of staying up. You have a great forward thinking manager, so that is a great start for you.
