QPR reject Watford Shittu bid

Queens Park Rangers have reportedly rejected a bid from Watford for defender Danny Shittu.

Shittu was voted QPR`s Player of the Season and has been one of the highlights in what has been a dismal 2005/06 campaign for the West Londoners. The Nigerian was signed from Charlton Athletic for 250,000 in 2001 after spending two months on loan at Shepherds Bush.

QPR chairman Gianni Paladini told the Kilburn Times: "I told them we want 3m and then another 500,000 if they stay up and we won't take less than the asking price. Danny's under contract - he knows the situation and he knows we are building a team," said the Italian. "He's one of our most important players and we want to keep those players at the club."

26-year-old Shittu has represented his country and would appear to be in the Boothroyd mould of players 'who want to improve.`

Paladini also spoke of his envy of what Aidy Boothroyd has achieved at Watford with relatively a small budget. "I respect what Watford have done - they brought in the right players without paying a fortune, now they're in the Premiership," he said.

"When I watched them winning the play-offs on TV, I felt like changing channels because I was so jealous!"
