QPR reject Watford Shittu bid

Queens Park Rangers have reportedly rejected a bid from Watford for defender Danny Shittu.

Shittu was voted QPR`s Player of the Season and has been one of the highlights in what has been a dismal 2005/06 campaign for the West Londoners. The Nigerian was signed from Charlton Athletic for £250,000 in 2001 after spending two months on loan at Shepherds Bush.

QPR chairman Gianni Paladini told the Kilburn Times: "I told them we want £3m and then another £500,000 if they stay up and we won't take less than the asking price. Danny's under contract - he knows the situation and he knows we are building a team," said the Italian. "He's one of our most important players and we want to keep those players at the club."

26-year-old Shittu has represented his country and would appear to be in the Boothroyd mould of players 'who want to improve.`

Paladini also spoke of his envy of what Aidy Boothroyd has achieved at Watford with relatively a small budget. "I respect what Watford have done - they brought in the right players without paying a fortune, now they're in the Premiership," he said.

"When I watched them winning the play-offs on TV, I felt like changing channels because I was so jealous!"
