'If It's Football, It's Vital'

VitalWatford rumour mill #1

We`re literally hours into the close season and the dog earred hacks haven`t even had chance to sharpen their speculation peddling pencils and pens but it appears the rumour mill is already starting to turn.

Here at VitalWatford Towers we are as gossip-hungry as you can get so here`s the early runners and riders that have been linked to Malky's hot list:

Watford head chase for Mellor
We`re not entirely sure where this one came from but APPARENTLY Watford head up a a clutch of interested Championship clubs circling PNE striker (and Stevie G lookalike) Neil Mellor. No, it doesn`t excite us either!

Hornets want Bees` Ashbee
Been out for a whole season with a serious knee injury? Angered fans in a PlayOff semi a few seasons ago? That`s right, if you an aging former Hull club captain then you too could be linked to a summer switch to Watford by the Sunday People. Malky - we don`t want Ian Ashbee.

…off the message boards (just in case there`s an ounce of truth to them and we can claim an 'exclusive`!)

Owls flyer linked to WD18 trial
Completely unsubstantiated this one but interesting none the less. Plenty of goss on the forums that Watford will give a trial to out of contract Sheffield Wednesday winger Etienne Esajas in pre-season. The pint sized former Vitesse Arnham flyer is a poor mans Nordin Wooter/Ricky Otto. We`d prefer Jermain Johnson instead!

Hornets eyeing another young Gunner
Again, forums abound that Watford will approach Arsenal about hauling Jay Emmanuel Thomas over the training ground wall at London Colney after the young defender/midfielder impressed on loan at Blackpool and Doncaster. Just thank your cotton socks it wasn`t Gavin Hoyte again.

I'm not sure we're gonna be able to afford him watford1881 - a little birdy has whispered to me that he's paid £17.5k a week at QPR so unless he takes a massive pay cut I'd say he's likely to be off the agenda!

esajas is poor, never got a chance at fortress hillsboro due to lazy training and poor work rate. think mellor will come to us with alan irvine and his dad being a former sheffield footballer. Can't wait, that's 6 goals next season!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

QPR fans I know, and Colin W seem to think that HH is ours already - that we have been paying monthly installments since January. I personally hope this isn't the case as he is no good for 90 minutes 46 times a season, an impact player yes, but that doesn't warrant the kind of wages he's being paid. Re. those in the article, I would only fancy Esajas; he seems decent enough competition in the wide areas, wouldn't mind Bouazza back or centre-back Sam Hird from Doncaster. (Presuming they don't sign new deals).
