A word of warning! Anyone out there who thought Watford would get it just a little bit easier than usual on Saturday - all because Reading now have nothing to play for - could be in a bit of a shock!
Oh yes…After QPR boss Neil Warnock admitting he made a u-turn on team selection for the midweek clash with the Hornets for fear of a media backlash about "messing about with club`s future", the PR machine has clearly been in full swing at the Madjeski Stadium.
In fact, Reading have right royally paraded players and gaffer in front of the media all with the same message - We owe it to Sheffield Wednesday and Crystal Palace to perform well and win at Watford.
Admittedly, the lazy journalism over at the Reading Evening Post reckon a half hearted performance from Reading would also 'be unfair on [Scunthorpe United]` - which is kinda strange because Scunnie are already safe!!!!
First up, and it`s gaffer Brian McDermott on the 'fficial site, who stated "There`s a great deal at stake on Saturday now…we owe it to the fans, we owe it to ourselves and we owe it to the league"…
Then came former Hornet Jobi McAnuff - in the Reading Chronicle - who admitted he "is desperate to score at Watford" and was keen to "let [Watford] stew for a week before finally get out of it on the last day of the season".
Ok, so Jobi did rattle on about being "desperate for [Watford] to stay up" but trust me, Jobi that won`t cut any mustard with the booboys who will be out to get you.
Finally, to finish came defender Alex Pearce who repeated the gaffers 'we owe it to the league` gesture by telling er, "we owe it to league", whilst midfielder Jay Tabb admitted "we also owe it to the team`s who are fighting in the relegation battle"!
Well, here at VitalWatford we reckon we 'owe` it to Reading for tapping up Smithy, stealing Rasiak and sending us Trevor Senior all those years ago…
…but they did sack Brendan [Who?] Rodgers and took McAnuff off our hands for an inflated price so surely that is pain enough?
