Second string Hornets hit 9

Watford`s patchwork quilt of fringe players, Academy prospects and 5 trialists showed the first team up for being the shot shy strikers they are as the reserves racked up 9 in a cracking 9-3 encounter with Stevenage Borough to leave them tinkering on the edge of the title!

Another hat-trick for the Boy Henderson will have done his chances for making Malky Mackay`s matchday squad for the trip to Leicester no harm at all whilst Matthew Whichelow`s treble will surely also need to be looked at.

Elsewhere, Marvellous Marvin Sordell got on the scoresheet (before going off injured) after returning from his spell on loan at League One Tranmere and Piero Mingoia again proved he could be the creative spark with another all action performance.

Most impressive of all though was winger Michael Bryan, who, if Malky is prepared to gamble on a lack of experience and get him off the bench, could quite nicely fit into the boots of Cleverley and Buckley - both ruled out for the season.

Michael Bryan has every right to feel aggrieved this season, he's been in and around the first team squad much of the season but only been thrown on once. Granted he's only a kid in a relegation battle but he's young, raw, full of energy and got something to prove, give him a chance instead of persisting with Liam Henderson who has proven on his own just HOW big the gulf between the stiffs and the CCC is!

I like both Bryan and also Piero Mingoia to be honest... I am very confident that in 2 - 3 years time - regardless of division - we will have a very good squad with age on their side. would be giving Piero a first team shirt each week now alongside Eustace until Jenks is proper fit (not Plymouth fit) again.

When I saw this headline, I expected it to say that Ryan Noble had bagged a load of goals, but hey, no, its our own players. I agree with wfc123 - despite Liam H scoring lots for the stiffs, he looks very weak in the first team; whats wrong with giving 30 mins at least to Noble, Bryan and maybe even Marvellous Marvin? We really need to be firing better up front.

Yeah, if Sordell's loan is back, get him in and around the first team too - at least he has a couple of professional goals to his name!

By all accounts gents he was shocking in his last few weeks with Tranmere so I'd think I'd steer clear!

Sordell-FAILED @ Tranmere. How is BRYAN an alternative to Hendo? Bryan v Cowie is the choice. Noble? Never played 1 minute in any league game-mad to risk him until we are safe. Hendo, like many young big strikers is clumsy but I recall the original Ross Jenkins being similar. II actually think that like Crouch he is probably better on the floor bur so far he has just been thrown on to help us hold/rescue games and has had long balls to chase. His reserve scoring rate exceeeds Hoskins and people used his reserve goals to justify his first team chances-which he wasted as usual. I hope we give LH another year and sign Noble on a years loan but think Sordell may go.

I have to confess to never having seen Sordell play, so I'm happy to bow down to the opinion of Tranmere sources of course. I didn't mean to offer Bryan as an alternative to Henderson, of course they play in vastly different positions, just suggesting we give other kids a go as apposed to ones that keep flopping, that said, I agree with the long ball's in dying minutes point. Henderson obviously knows where the goal is, his reserve record backs that up, but Will Hoskins has a record to back up his claim, earnt at Rotherham. He has scarcely played for us though. The same goes for Noble - has the youth/reserves record but hasn't been given the chance to back it up in the first team. Not saying that he will score in every game remaining but why sign him on a seasons loan when he's not played a minute in the league yet, as you so rightly say?
