'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Marlon King salutes Boothroyd

Upon winning promotion to the Premier League after defeating Leeds United at the Millennium Stadium, striker Marlon King was quick to salute Watford boss Aidy Boothroyd.

Speaking to the national press King heaped praise on the gaffer for the team spirit and belief he has instilled - helping Watford gain a place in the Promised Land of English football.

“We haven't been overwhelmed all season, never mind today. The gaffer has faith in all of us and that helps,” said King. “All season he hasn't been afraid to play us, and play untried and untested players. Even for the younger players it's been a case of 'if you're old enough, you're good enough'.”

With Boothroyd bringing in several new faces over the summer the players did not have a lot of time to prepare together and build as a team before the tart of the season and King says that it did not hinder team spirit. “We have a great team spirit in the camp and we haven't let anyone dictate our season for us.”

“We knew we had to work hard and gel as a team, and to be fair, we've had do it more quickly than the likes of Reading or Sheffield United who have time to grow and bond as a unit, added the former Gillingham and Forest forward.

However, the Championship’s top goalscorer, who will now be pitting is wits against the likes of John Terry, Rio Ferdinand and Sol Campbell next season in the Premier League saved his last words for Aidy Boothroyd.
“When I was at Leeds United I was played out of position even though I knew I was a striker through and through,” said King.

“Here, the gaffer has played me up-front, given me first team football and given me confidence all over again.”

“I thank him for that.”

Indeed, we all do.
