DeMerit looking to the Premiership

American ace Jay DeMerit is eagerly awaiting the start of the 2006/07 Premier League season.

“I can't wait,' said the Wisconsin-born 26-year-old, I suppose going to the big three or four grounds will be what we're all looking out for.”

The former Northwood Town defender paid tribute Watford’s build-up and preparations for the play-off final. “I think it is just about the preparation. We were here earlier in the week and getting the butterflies out when we came to the stadium helped,” said DeMerit.

“We prepared for the game like all of the other 48 games this season though and we all knew what we had to do .If eleven guys do their job there's no reason why you shouldn't win and today was testament to that.”

Demerit’s 25th minute header opened the scoring for the Golden Boys, but the defnder didn’t let that affect his concentration throughout the Millennium Stadium match.

“You definitely don't think about those things at the time,” said DeMerit. “We came here with a job to do today and we were focussed on that.”

“I enjoyed the goal for about 35-seconds and then it was back to my job!”
