Malky: 'Unfortunate not to get all three'

Boss Malky Mackay was rightfully proud of his players at full-time after they moved a point closer to safety with a one all draw at Preston North End.

Watford have won just twice at Deepdale in their history and not for a good few years since the last time so a third ever win always looked unlikely considering our current vein of away form:

Preston is never an easy place to come,' he said. 'It never has been throughout my time in this division, but I think we probably did enough to win the game.

'We've got the point and I think we were unfortunate not to get all three.

'At this stage it's about character and belief and to be fair the players have shown that all season. They've sweated blood for us. I'm very proud of them."

Mackay also confirmed he was unhappy with the decision to chalk off Danny Graham`s 'winner` five minutes from time, and that Ross Wallace`s elbow on midfielder Don Cowie went unpunished:

'Ross Wallace has had his elbow in Don Cowie's face,' said Mackay. 'Don is groggy and has seen the doctor.

'It's inconsistent refereeing. I also thought the offside was marginal.
Said Mackay of the Graham goal.

Malky`s opposite number, Ferguson Jnr. recognized the contribution of 'keeper Lonergan who denied the 'Orns a first away win in 15 with a save from John Eustace`s point-blank range header:

'Quite simply it's one of the best saves I've ever seen. I was expecting it to hit the net. He's an excellent goalkeeper.'
The former Posh chief went onto praise the impact of first-half sub, Keith Treacy as well:

'Keith is a good player with all the ability in the world. He can go both ways so he is a nightmare for defenders. My only complaint is that we didn't give him enough of the ball when we were on top.'
