'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Watford chairman does a 'Delia'

Ok, so it might not be quite up to ol` Delia`s standards after THAT half time 'Where are you` rant at the Norwich fans in a clash with Manchester City a few years back... but Sir Graham Taylor`s on pitch antics at the Vic on Saturday were still pretty cringeworthy!

GT`s pre-match rallying call - microphone in hand on the centre spot with the driving rain drenching him to his yellow core - was still embarrassing even if we find it hard to criticise Watford`s legendary chairman for caring.

Taylor clearly felt that the baiting of Malky Mackay wasn`t helping the Hornets cause in their scrap to avoid the drop and that his plea for pride and for fans to keep the faith in our gaffer and his squad was definitely heartfelt.

And Sir Graham`s calls for the players to 'shooooooot` on sight in the clash with Middlesborough ACTUALLY paid off with John Eustace heeding his chairman`s words as he lashed home maginificantly from a full 20 yards.

Yes, it stunk of desperation (just like Malky`s email to fans pleading for pride and passion in the stands late into our inbox on Friday). Yes, it was cringeworthy in places. Yes, the fact that GT felt he needed to brave the elements and have his say shows just what a dire position, hovering above the trapdoor to footballing obscurity, we find ourselves in.

But, look on the bright side of things Hornet fans... at least he didn`t resort to spot of singing like Phil Brown nor did he slur his words to the humour of the Boro fans after sampling 1 too many in Harry`s Bar before the game (like Norwich`s famous first lady).

Now that... "do we not like that" !!!!

I totally disagree with almost all of this article. I did not feel embarrassed for him and it might not be the position we are in which is why he did it. Why not try the moaney fans who turned on the team because a bunch of younsgters lost a few games.

I think GT was right to do it-yes it should not be rquired but it shows that he puts the club before his own ego.
