Watford better than results - Irvine

Likeable Sheffield Wednesday boss, Alan Irvine, has warned Owls fans not to expect a Watford side playing like relegation fodder, low on confidence like their rapid slide down the league table would indicate.

Oh no. Malky Mackay`s men might only have managed 3 wins in their last 16 games (AND haven`t won on the road since Boro` back in October) but Irvine insists "[Watford] are playing a lot better than their recent results have suggested".

Hmmm, Irvine also admitted that he`s "seen quite a bit of Watford recently" - but clearly, on the evidence of his pre-match comments on the official Owls site, he didn`t catch that dire performance at home to Peterborough or the turgid display at Pride Park then?!?

The Wednesday boss warned "Watford are actually a very good football team - they are completely changed from the Old Watford...".

Irvine continued to gush with praise, adding "They play in a very attractive way, a very controlled way and have real threats up front. They`ve got goals from midfield as well".

Which all points towards Watford going direct, playing long ball tactics in a haphazard fashion with Doyley and Hodson adding the firepower as the Hornets head to Hillsborough for the crunch 12-pointer!!!!

Hmmmm...all very nice, but not very true. We've played poorly of late, and by 'goals from midfield', he actually means goals from Tom Cleverley because the others dont chip in really. Playing pretty football will mean nothing if we lose again tonight too.

Nothing like a bit of kidology ahead of a vital six pointer against one of your main relegation rivals. It is the oldest trick in the book to talk up your opponents and lure them into a false sense of security.
