Watford legend linked to Ram raid

Watford legend, Tommy 'Smudger` Smith could be on his way back to the rough and tumble of Championship life just 7 months after a leaving the Hornets for the shambles at Portsmouth.

Smith, who has since admitted he never really wanted to leave Vicarage Road but had to for the good of the club coffers, is on the wanted list of Derby County - another of his former clubs.

The Rams have confirmed they have tabled an offer to take Smudger on loan for the rest of the season with Cloughie Jnr confirming "We`ve made an enquiry [last week] to Portsmouth...to see if Tommy wants to come or not. It`s one we`ll keep pursuing".

Hmmm, the question is though can Smithy actually play for Derby if he does move? A quick look at Fifa`s big grey book on the 'Regulations on the Status & Transfer of Players` suggests otherwise.

Here at VitalWatford, we don`t want to be picky but Article 5.3 clearly states "Players may be registered with a maximum of three clubs during
one season. During this period, the player is only eligible to play official matches for two clubs
."

Having already played for both Portsmouth and Watford this season, surely Tommy would be left in limbo?

Ok, we`re just wishfully thinking that Tommy returns to Watford as Pompey look at ways to clear any unpaid debt with the Vicarage Road moneymen.

Well, we can dream can`t we?!?
