The 2-way tug of way between Newcastle and Watford - with Pompey reserve Mike Williamson caught in the middle - appears to show no sign of relenting after Sky Sports changed their story yesterday!
Just 48 hours ago, the usually reliable team at Sky "understood" that Watford were "closing in on a deal" for their former centre back with the Hornets even prepared to waive any additional payments due from cash crisis club Portsmouth.
Then just 24 hour later (and obviously after their reporter was given a kicking for duff information) they suddenly "understood" that Newcastle had had a bid accepted for Williamson.
Now, it appears to be common knowledge that the Magpies have mad the first move, slapping in a £1m official bid for the former Wycombe man - a fee that would represent a £2m loss on the Fratton Park financial books after just 6 months.
Here at VitalWatford, we`re not entirely sure what this all means financially for Watford. The Portsmouth moneymen still owe us a whole heap of cash for Williamson even if he is sold (when they could easily escape this by sending him back to Hertfordshire).
Any switch to St James Park would also add to Pompey`s woes with the Hornets having written a hefty sell-on clause into his contract.
We can only hope that the Hornets push and push and push Pompey to pay up and if this runs the South Coast shambles of an outfit into administration then so be it!
Either way, one thing`s for sure, it looks extremely unlikely that Malky Mackay will net his only other January window 'target`… but funnier things have happened.
