McGinn 'to grow up fast' at Watford

It might not yet be official but Watford`s seemingly latest recruit, Stephen McGinn, will "have to grow up fast" if he is to handle Championship life according to his former boss at St Mirren.

McGinn is expected to sign on the dreaded dotted at Vicarage Road some time today to seal his £100K switch south of the border but whilst his former bossGus MacPherson reckon`s "it`s a cracking move" he has also warned the Scottish U21 midfielder that "it`s a massive step up".

Speaking to the Glasgow Evening Times, the St Mirren gaffer gave "lovely boy" McGinn a glowing reference, insisting "he has been a great lad to work with", praising his "fantastic attitude".

And he also backs young Stephen to "flourish" under Malky Mackay`s guidance, suggesting the rough and tumble of Championship life will "bring out the best in him".

But there was a word of warning with MacPherson quick to add that McGinn "will have to grow up fast now because he will be expected to go down there and hold his own…it is a very competitive, very challenging league."

He added "There is a huge gulf between the Championship and the SPL"…

Hmmm, we could have told him that!!!
