O'Toole joins Colchester United

Shaggy-haired Irish midfielder John-Joe O'Toole has signed permanently for Colcheste United after impressing on loan with Aidy Boothroyd's outfit.

There is no word from the Hornet's yet, and no mention as to whether a fee was involved but time will probably tell.

It was evident the Irish U21 cap would be off sooner or later having not feature under Mackay and scarcely under Rodgers before his loan spell at Sheffield United. Perhaps Boothroyd is the only man who can get him playing?

Boothroyd had this to say on his capture:

'He has been brilliant since he has been here and I was always keen to sign him permanently.'

O'Toole made 37 league starts since graduating from the Hornet's Academy, making another 20 appearances off the bench and scoring ten league goals.

We wish John-Joe well in the future.

Good signing for us, cheers! We could have paid up to 600,000 thousand for him all told!

Yep, very pleased! Aidy loves him - reckon the fee was more around 300k. Up the U's!

Yeah, seemed odd for us to loan him out last year, but he's so far down the pecking order I'd forgotten we still had him. Good luck though, decent player.

Had a lot of promise - although Colchester are genuinely competing for promotion, it's surprising to see him drop down to League One.
