DeMerit future uncertain

Currently sidelined captain Jay DeMerit has this week spoken about his future in WD18 for the first time since his freak eye injury sidelined him earler in the campaign.

The American centre back has confirmed that as yet, no talks have occured regarding a new contract, though his current deal will expire next July:

'We will talk about it at the end of the season, especially as I am still here and there is no ill will between both parties.

'They want me to be here so that relationship is still fine and if they can offer me a package which is good enough for me to stay then I will.'
Said DeMerit, speaking to the Watford Observer.

The former Northwood centre back then went on to confirm that no talks will be taking place until after the World Cup in South Africa, assuming he is picked by USA coach Bob Bradley:

'The sensible answer is to make sure you are fit and available for a new contract and try to make the World Cup squad and once the World Cup is done, we have time to sort out a deal. There is no hurry to sign a new contract, otherwise I would have signed one by now.'

For now though, DeMerit remains on the sidlines with a freak eye injury and we're no closer to knowing when, and indeed if we'll see the American back in a Hornet's shirt. Watch this space.
