Huddersfield Town have dropped their interest in a loan deal for Watford outcast Mat Sadler after suggesting that the former Birmingham left back isn`t fit for League One footie!
The Terriers, who have eyes on a return to the Championship, have confirmed they "have made a decision to end our interest" in Sadler following an unsuccessful 10-day trial up north.
And that "decision" not to roll out the welcome er, mat for Sadler at the Galpharm Stadium is all down to him being no better than what`s already on offer at the lower league outfit apparently.
So nothing to do with a hefty wage packet then huh?
Straight talking gaffer Lee Clark told the Huddersfield Daily Examiner and the official online spin machine at www.htafc.com "We are not pursuing our interest in Mat... new players have to be better options than what we already have".
Seems a bit strange given Sadler has turned out in the Premiership, was a 42-game regular in Birmingham`s promotion winning season and had been chased by a host of high flying clubs such as Wolves, Ipswich and Sunderland before joining Watford.
But Clark wasn`t finished there. Oh no, the former Newcastle and Fulham midfield ankle biter reckoned Sadler`s spell out cold in the Watford wilderness had destroyed his chances, adding "Mat has also had a lack of first team games and would have taken him a long time to reach our fitness levels".
Er, yeah! If Mat had been playing first-team football regularly he wouldn`t have been offered to an overly ambitious lower league club to get him off the Watford wage bill would he Mr Clark?
