Sad Mat finished at Watford?

Mat Sadler`s spell stranded out in the cold, cold Watford wilderness look close to coming to an end after the former Birmingham left back left Vicarage Road for a trial at League One promotion chasers, Huddersfield.

Sadler, who joined the Hornets in a now overpriced £750k deal when Aidy Boothroyd splashed the cash in the 2008 January sales, has been an outcast at Watford for the past 11 months - not even making a match day squad due to reportedly excessive appearance fees.

Now, after seeing a potential loan move to Ipswich fall through last season, Sad Mat has gone for a week long trial up north with Lee Clark`s free scoring Terriers with a view to a loan and made an immediate impact in a run out for the reserves in a 3-1 win over Grimsby.

The Huddersfield Examiner even reckon that Sad Mat was "impressive both at the back and coming forward", whilst Lee Clark insists "the trial gave us the ideal chance to have a look at him".

Here at VitalWatford, we do feel sorry for Sadler. With the exception of his last competitive 45 minutes in a Hornets shirt (the Boxing Day massacre at home to Bristol City), Sadler was reliable, consistent and solid.

Lest us not forgot that when he joined, Watford were flying high, 9 points cleared and heading for the promised land of the Premiership - until we got found out! You can forgive Mat for being a bit disillusioned with life at Vicarage Road.

Difficult to understand why he didn't perform for us, had a back injury early on and never really looked the part. However need to get him off the payroll along with the lazy, self-serving, over-rated(especially by himself) publicist Nathan Ellington

lol RFB, i detect a slight dislike for Ellington. Im not sure who negotiated the contracts on players coming in, Was it Boothroyd or Ashton? either way, it was a mighty cock up.

If it wasn't Ashton, I'd like to know what he actually did, apart from pocket loads of cash. Heh ho
