Cowie call-up

Former Ross County and Inverness Caldedonian Thistle man, Don Cowie, has recieved his first international call-up today.

Cowie has been called into George Burley's squad as a late replacement after ten players pulled out due to 'injury'. Manchester United midfielder Darren Fletcher, and Spurs' Alan Huttton the latest. How many are actually injured and how many don't fancy a long-haul over the Japan for a pointless game is another matter alltogether however!

Not that Don Cowie will mind as he proclaimed himself 'over the moon' and 'shocked' to get the call.

The Scots are taking on Japan at the amusingly named 'Nissan Stadium' this Saturday, in their first game since failing to make the cut for the 2010 World Cup Finals in South Africa. George Burley has also called up Norwich City's Stephen Hughes and Dundee's Craig Conway to cater for the missing players.

Since moving South from Inverness last January, Cowie has been in fine form, despite being forced wide this season, the 26 year-old has managed three goals in his nineteen league starts for the Hornets.

Manchester United loanee Tom Cleverley has been called up by the England U21 side, as has Scott Loach, whislt former 'Orns loan star, Jack Cork also makes Stuart Pearce's squd.

Good luck to the international Hornets!

Good luck to him, it could to other players that coming to WFC puts you in the window, not only for bigger moves, but international call ups too. On a personal note, was sorry to hear of the death of Terry Chalis, his cartoons on the WO were always good fun.
