Watford 2nd choice keeper Richard Lee has admitted that he wasn`t fit for Championship footie last season and insists his form was "amongst his worst" whilst at Watford!
How very honest.
Lee, who has only managed 2 League Cup outings this season, has well and truly lost the shift between the sticks to Scott Loach and insists he let himself down last season when he had the chance to impress Malky Mackay.
Speaking through his thoroughly interesting weekly blog at www.richardleegk.com, the Hornets back-up glovemaster said "I wasn`t in a fit state to play last season...I never really got myself to the physical state that is required to play in the Championship...".
And Lee went on to concede (a word he is now used to?!?) that his form suffered as a result. He added "It still bugs me slightly that despite playing over 100 games for Watford my last few games last few games last season were amongst my worst".
Ol` Rich wasn`t kidding either. He shipped 15 goals in his last 6 league games - including 4 at home to Blackpool that god rid of Aidy, 3 away to Swansea where he was particularly appalling and finally 2 on the road at Barnsley, which was the final nail in the coffin so to speak.
A fact not on Lee. Oh no, Rich admitted "I swear I made more mistakes in 4 games than throughout the rest of those 100 or so games".
Hmmm it`s refreshing to hear a footballer offer such an honest, open assessment and hear at VitalWatford we applaud Rich (whilst keeping our fingers crossed that Loachy stays injury free for the next 8 months!!!).
