Braveheart Watford boss, Malky Mackay, has heaped praise on his Hornet kids after his "very young side" got the better of an 'experienced` Barnsley side.
In the absence of any new signings after the a number of high profile departures, the Hornets gaffer was forced to field a starting 11 with an average age of only 21 - and 5 players under 20!!!
But Mackay hailed the teenage kicks dished out by the home-grown ability of Dale Bennett, Ross Jenkins and Lee Hodson as something that "really warms the hearts of the coaching staff" after his boys, still wet behind the ears, won 1-0 against a poor Tykes side.
Malky told the official site "Barnsley have experienced, big, physical players they threw at us but we stood up to that...when you look at it we had a very young side but at times they showed real maturity".
In fact, whilst the youthful exuberance of Arsenal`s Henri Lansbury and Manchester United`s Tom Cleverley bossed the Watford midfield, it was the debut of Dale Bennett at the heart of an 'all-action, all Academy' backline that stole the show at Vicarage Road.
Mackay beamed "You look at the back four and they`ve all come through the ranks and the Academy here- that`s a real testatment to the club...'.
And the Hornets gaffer added "I think none of them looked out of place in this league"...
...something that can`t be said to be true of a Barnsley side, who, with the exception of Campbell-Ryce, were one of the worst sides to come to Watford in many a year.
