Wycombe praise for Watford board

League One Wycombe Wanderers have heaped praise on the Watford board, and more importantly, Hornets head honcho Jimmy Russo, following the whole Mike Williamson fiasco.

The Chairboy`s charismatic owner, Steve Hayes, has hailed lil` Jimmy as the ultimate professional - "a top businessman" and "an absolute pleasure to deal with" - insisting he`s a breath of fresh air compared to some league chairman he`s had to deal with.

… well, he would do - he`s just pocketed a cool £475k from a sell-on clause, thanks to the Hornets shrewd negotiations with Portsmouth for the former Wycombe centre back.

Hayes told the 'fficial Wanderers site "It`s great to deal with top professionals like Jimmy [and Cardiff chairman Peter Risdale] because I have dealt with other chairman in the past who were nothing like as professional".

Wycombe`s owner even added that the new open, honest Watford board`s approach is much appreciated, stressing "Jimmy Russo was superb all the way through the Mike Williamson deal. He kept us informed every step of the way…".

Compare this to the experience of the Brentford board, who - despite seeing their former defender Michael Turner, move on in a multi, multi million pound move - have been left in the dark by Hull over the sell-on fees that have a right to.

Lil` Jimmy, who was also praised "as first class", should take massive heart from this well deserved, well timed praise from Adams Park.

It`s not been an easy time for the Hornets head honcho - forced to wash his dirty laundry with Reading in public, manage the ever-so empty club coffers and make some big, big decisions which were never going to be overly popular with the Vicarage Road failthful.

Still, at least it seems the days of boardroom battles, bullying in transfer dealings with lower league clubs, a war of words with the local rag and spin, spin, spin are well gone.
