Smudger Smith blots his reputation
Tommy Smith just about managed to cling on to his reputation as a Watford legend by choosing Pompey over that right Royal shambles in Berkshire but Smudger`s halo is seriously in danger of slipping a bit.
The departure of £2m Tommy had been deemed kind of inevitable but many fans felt Smithy had stayed to true to his Watford roots, kept in touch with the fans feelings and stuck two fingers up to Brendan Who? at the 11th hour.
So imagine the disappointment now that Tommy has stated that he was more than "happy to make the move to Reading" and was "really happy with the deal" offered at the Madjeski Stadium - but the lure of Premier League football "was just too good".
The former Watford winger even had the cheek to insist that Brendan Who? was "great"…
That`s not gonna go down at all well with the Vicarage Road faithful you know, Tommy.
Hey, he`s not stopped there though. Oh no, now Smith has advised Pompey boss, Paul Hart, to ramp up the chase to sign Mike Williamson and leave Watford right in the lurch.
Smithy confirmed "I have spoken to the gaffer here about [Williamson] and was asked what I think, and I certainly think he can step up…I think he would be a great acquisition for the club".
Well that`s a right kick in the teeth and if it wasn`t for that much needed £200K we`ll receive IF (and that`s a bl**dy big IF) Pompey stay in the top flight, then we`d be hoping that Smithy plays an instrumental role in Pompey`s relegation now.
