Alls well that [Cress]well at Watford

Alls well that [Cress]well at Watford

After missing out on reported transfer targets Paul Gallagher and Craig Beattie, Watford are desperately short up front - but that`s still no excuse for Sky Sports linking us with a swoop for Richard Cresswell.

You`ll remember Cresswell - he was hot property in the Championship and seemed to always be on fire in front of goal, seemingly scoring every time he played against the Hornets for Preston…. about 25 years ago!

Now Richard - who was cut from that same mis-shapen mould as James Scowcroft - finds himself surplus to requirements at Premier League Stoke and when he does get a game, finds himself dumped out on the left wing (think Kabba, only worse!).

Media reports seem to suggest that Braveheart Watford boss, Malky Mackay, will splash a cool £500k on the former PNE, Leeds, Leicester, Sheffield Wednesday, Mansfield and York journeyman (phew!)… and he`s not even Scottish (which makes a change).

Ok, so he`s certainly not the quick and tricky striker we all want to play alongside Golden Graham and at almost 32, he`s not one for the future but let`s face facts - Cresswell has experience, has cost over £3.3m in transfer fees and as he`s in the last year of his contract so could appease the Vicarage Road moneymen.

And, if you forget his Premier League stats, he`s got a decent record - 110 career goals in 370 starts.

Not quite Welbeck, Vokes, Webber, Simpson, Agyemang, Zheng Zhi or even Vela then but I guess he`ll do a job (for a year or so).
