Hornets tried to hijack Beattie

New Swansea striker, Craig Beattie, will square up against Watford at the Liberty Stadium tomorrow knowing all too well that he could have been leading the Hornets frontline instead had things worked out differently - according to his agent anyway!

The former Baggies and Celtic frontman jumped aboard Paulo Sousa`s Swansea revolution yesterday (after disappointing Palace) but his agent reckons Watford tried to hijack the deal at the last minute.

Speaking to the folk in the know at TalkSport, a representative of the Scottish striker (not another bloody Scot) confirmed that Malky Mackay`s men took a leaf out of Portsmouth book of transfer dealings and attempted to guzump the Welsh outfit.

Thankfully for the Vicarage Road moneymen, the bold attempt to steal the striker at the 11th hour from under the Swans` wings failed and instead it was Swansea who will have to find more than a staggering £800k to pay West Brom….

Seems a lot for a player who hasn`t really settled south of the border and whom many at Bramall Lane consider to be one of the worst frontmen to play for Sheffield United (a startling fact given they had Kabba for a while).

Phew! What a lucky escape. One thing`s for sure though - you can bet your bottom dollar (and even your top one) that he will score the winner tomorrow!!!!
