According to the Sun, Newcastle are closing in on signing Watford duo, Tommy Smith and Captain America with Chris Hughton keen "to seal both deals soon".
Seems extremely unlikely given the circus going on at St James Park and the fact that here at VitalWatford, we can`t really see Newcastle shelling out £2m for Smith - who, lest us all remember, is a former Sunderland reject.
Smudger was also reluctant to move his family north to Sheffield so hauling them an extra 150+ miles to the cold, inhospitable far-flung reaches of the North East seems remote.
Elsewhere and Jay Demerit is sure to have caught the eye with his performances for the States in the Confederations Cup and Newcastle are clearly short on defensive cover (with Beye and Bassong engineering moves away) so the link is a tad obvious.
Though, Captain America did once go on record as quoting that in Newcastle "you grow up breathing the team like a religion" and he "grew up in that mould"…
…still, we`ll have to wait to see if Jay Jay Jay from USA lets all that warmth and comfort of nostalga overshadow the shambles taking place at a once great club!
Which all means one thing here at VitalWatford Towers, we have no idea whether a bid will received or not and if so whether the board will be keen to move the centre back on.
