Hoef! Baggie Belgian in Watford link

Watford are being linked with a move for former Baggie defender Carl Hoefkens but with Ipswich and F`lem also touted as "interested", the Hornets could find themselves priced out of any swoop.

Ok, so we admit that the Hoefkens speculations has fallen a little under the radar here at VitalWatford Towers - yes, even though it`s spread like wildfire across the net ever since the Belgian press suggested that he was "set for talks".

So, could this be the 'mystery number 5` that`s missing from the newly announced 2009-2010 Hornets squad list, that`s caused such a buzz? Er, we doubt it somehow.

Despite reports suggesting that the versatile, experienced (if leg weary) defender is keen to remain in England (and not move back to the footballing wilderness in Belgium), it`s highly unlikely that Watford would be able to compete financially to capture Hoefkens.

Premier League experience will mean big wages and let`s not forget that he cost West Brom over £750k (or 1/8th of their Ellington windfall) when he signed from Stoke, so, unless Mike Williamson is moved on, he simply looks too expensive.

And the not so Super-Hoops of QPR have just entered the race to sign him and they have more money than they know what to do with.

And he`s a right back - not a centre half - anyway.

And surely, Martin Albrechtsen is more in our price range?

Apart from that...
