Malky praises Duke work ethic

Braveheart Watford boss Malky Mackay has praised Nathan Ellington`s "great work ethic" but the future still looks unclear as to whether Duke will remain in WD18.

Ellington got a run out in the Hornets first pre-season match in the 4-1 win at Borehamwood on Saturday amid speculation that he might just be back in the reckoning at Watford but Mackay was quick to suggest that clubs are still free to come in for him.

Speaking to fans via a webchat on the ever so popular Watford Observer site, the Hornets gaffer said "[Nathan] realised at this stage of his career he has to be playing first team football and to that end has to be fit in the coming weeks should a club come in for him".

But Mackay was quick with the compliments of a player now regarded as one of the biggest flops in Watford`s history. He added that Duke "has trained well in the first two weeks" and insists "he has shown a great work ethic" - something a lot of Watford fans will be surprised to hear.

Will Ellington stay at Watford, well you just never know. Mackay confirmed that "absolutely Tamas will be here" but with Robinson moved on and the future surrounding Rasiak "unclear", Duke might the man for the job.

unfortunately i think old (banana boots) will stay, not much longer now till transfers really start to take place.Really though who would take ellington off our hands.I know there is a divided opinion on smudger, good buisness or not, there a real diffrence in terms of commitmant beetween the duke and smudger.Been interesting to read the diffrent views regarding T.S.For me the last two seasons he has been our most commited and consistant player.Very worthy of a new contract, which im sure he would sign if the club could find the money avalible to do so. I would be interested to know what the club are paying the duke,i bet he is on a heavy wage, which could be put to better use ideally offering T.S. a new contract.I know its maybe not as easy as that, and it is out of our hands to the outcome of what really happens with regards to smudger.Hopefully what ever malky got planned for the team, watford still got enough firepower there to keep us going.

It could be interesting, but i am pretty sure that they want him gone! the trouble is, does anyone want him? he could go for nothing or maybe go out on loan again, MM has to play him to keep him in the shop window.

The only way he will leave is if we subsidise his wages; be that for a loan deal or permanent (free) transfer. He is without doubt the highest paid player at the Vic and whilst he may score a few goals is not exactly good for dfressing room harmony.
