Russo starts war o' words with Reading

The usually ever so placid and extremely likeable Watford chairman Jimmy Russo has raged at reports that Tommy Smith is being sold off cheap to Reading by insisting their measily offer is "insulting".

And that`s not it. The W`Observer reckon the Hornets head honcho blasted speculation in the Reading Comical (sorry, 'Chronicle`) that a deal was done to take Smudger to Berkshire for £800k as "a derisory offer" - further adding he`s "not interested" in taking Madjeski`s money!

Given that the Hornets insist they have already turned down 2 bids in excess of £1m for the 2nd best player in last season`s Championship (statistically), you can`t blame him for being furious.

Ah, it`s good to hear Russo repeat that he "has no desire" to sell Smithy and its even better to have him confirm that "there is no deal whatsoever with Reading. I can 100% guarantee that".

Let`s face it, at the moment most Watford fans (not the moneymen) would rather we sold Tommy to Wolves for £250 and a bag of chocolate buttons rather than to Reading for £140m in fairness.

Yes, the board may be playing a bit of lip service to the fans and yes Brendan Who? will clearly be back but you know what, here at VitalWatford Towers, we like Jimmy Russo, we trust Jimmy Russo and we believe him.
