Scott Loach might well have had an out of character bout of the "Scott Carsons" during England`s 4-0 trouncing at the hands of Germany in the U21 Championship final but Malky Mackay reckons it "can`t be bad for Watford".
Loach let a 35 yarder of a free kick completely deceive him to gift the Germans the all important 2nd goal, and whilst a host of so-called Premiership 'starlets` were far, far worse than average, it is the rookie stopper who is making the headlines.
There`s plenty of criticism across the web that Scott will be "a broken young man" following his dismal full 90 minutes for the Young Lions and that the rookie keeper "can thank Stuart Pearce for destroying his confidence" but Mackay is having none of it.
The Hornets gaffer told the 'fficial site "The fact he's had the experience being away with England at international level and being involved in an international football tournament at such a high level is great for him and it can't be bad for Watford either.".
He added "I know the England people were very happy with how he got on over [in Sweden]"…
Let`s face it, Scott`s call up to the international scene was a massive surprise in itself coming after just 1 full season as a first choice stopper in the football league. But getting the nod to replace the suspended Joe Hart - who showed bags of immaturity to earn a yellow card - for the final after less than 80 minutes of game time for the Young Lions was a bold call that backfired…
Still, at least Loach can look to Scott Carson`s form since his Croatia nightmare and see that everything is not lost.
Head up Scotty…onward, upward & look at the positive… at least your blip happened for England and not in the much more hallowed Watford number 1 jersey!!!
