'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Its Official! Malky gets Watford job

As expected, Watford have stuck to tradition of appointing young, fresh managers by announcing that first team coach Malky Mackay has been promoted to the role of new gaffer at Vicarage Road…

…and he`s been backed by the board with a 3 year contract (something Brendan Who? didn`t enjoy the luxury of)

Mackay, who beat off more than "50 quality applicants" for the role according to the Hornet 'fficial site, was the "outstanding & exceptional candidate" or so says the 4-man selection panel, featuring Sir Graham Taylor.

It is expected that Mackay will appoint Sean Dyche as his right hand man to build a ever so manly backroom team that you simply wouldn`t mess with!!!

Malky, who is currently out in Sweden keeping a close eye on the talent at the U21 European Championships, told the official site "I`m absolutely delighted to get the job…I couldn`t have had any better grounding than what I`ve had at Watford over the last 4 years…".

…Let the games begin.

MM is prob the cheapest option, but at least he might have the heart us (the fans) demand & not move on when someone else needs a gaffer...

think only time will tell if its a good appointment i hope so cos malkys been with us a good few years now my other worry is rodgers coming back for the likes of smith or priskin hope we tell him where to get off if he does

A very interesting aside in the WO article, something to the effect " Mackay had already been identified as a potential replacement prior to Rodgers' departure". Hmmm... Now tell me the board weren't happy to accept Madjeski's money, they saw it coming and actively encouraged it! Come on Malky's Magnificent Marauders!

i don't think there is any harm in planning for the future, infact if we had done this the first time GT left, then maybe we would have stayed an established first/premiership team. It was inevitable that Rodgers was not gonna show any loyalty, if an attractive club came in for him. I'm sure the board were delighted in the money they got, lets face it, if he had walked out and gone, which i understand if wfc had refused permission for him to talk to reading, he would have done, he had less than half his contract left and the compensation would have been a lot less than what we got. I truly hope that Malky brings stability and a plan for the future, as for success, staying in this division for a start, some good home wins and not a return to what aidy left us playing like.
