No Watford move for McInnes - Saints

St Johnstone insist there`s been no contact from Watford for manager Derek McInnes despite mounting speculation linking the former Baggie midfielder to the Vicarage Road vacancy….

…and even if the Hornets did pop over the border for a spot of boss baiting then they`d find the Saints ready to play hardball according to the management.

The Dundee Courier (taking us to the heart of Tayside and Fife apparently) reports that "rumoured discussion between the two clubs on [compensation deal] had foundered".

But the board at the newly promoted SPL club are having none of it, confirming "we`ve had no approach from the club concerned".

St Johnstone managing director Stuart Duff added "…if [Watford] did contact us, only if and when agreement on compensation was reached would we allow them permission to speak to our manager".

And amid banging his braveheart chest with pride no doubt, the St Johnstone spokesman might well have conceded that "The Championship in England would represent a step up for [McInnes]" but he did add that the Saints expect to start next season "believing Derek will be remaining our manager".

Ah, if only he`d added 'you can take our spirit but you`ll never take our gaffer` then VitalWatford`s life would be complete.
