Reading plan Rodgers raid (again!)

It just won`t go away will it. Brendan Rodgers insists he`s loving life at Watford and has no plans to jump ship now. The Hornets chairman reiterates there`s been no approach from Reading but still the speculation mounts…

And this time a figure has even put on compensation!

The Reading Evening Post is reporting that despite all the denials, and braveheart warcrys of loyalty from the Watford camp, that Reading ARE about to approach Vicarage Road to poach Brendan Rodgers - and it could happen in the next 48 hours.

The local rag quotes that the Royals are "set to test Watford`s resolve this weekend…" and have made Rodgers their "favoured choice" to replace Steve Coppell despite sifting through 100s of applications.

There`s even talk of "£500,000 in compensation to land him" which would certainly put a smile on the faces of the money men at Vicarage Road.

Yes there`s plenty of the usual 'filler` about Rodgers right royal attachments to the Madjeski Stadium and sure, it might be just another lazy bit of journalism by the Evening Post`s Nick Ive but it`s still making the VitalWatford boys increasingly nervous.

Ive`s even finishes his article with a nice little get out insisting if Watford rebuff any approach, Nicky Hammond - a close friend of Rodgers - will turn his attentions elsewhere with all the usual suspects and League Two Manager of the Season Paul Tisdale of Exeter in the running.

If Buck goes the incoming manager will have a very large rebuilding job to do in the close season; with many of the loanees and better players likely to move on. A big decision for the board that will shape the next couple of seasons for sure. If we want to keep Rodgers we need to make it clear to him and Reading that we're not interested. Given our parlous financial state, I doubt this will happen!
