Hornets kid stars for England U17s

Watford Academy scholar Eddie Ashodi played the full 90 minutes in the heart of England`s backline as the Young Lions got off to a steady start in the UEFA U17 European Championships in Germany.

Ashodi, who turned 17 in January, was instrumental in shutting out the young guns from Holland as England pulled off a creditable 1-1 draw in the opening clash of the tournament at The Stadium of Friendship (home of Bundesliga side Energie Cottbus).

In a side featuring the talents of Tottenham`s John Bostock, Jack Wilshere of Arsenal and JonJo Shelvy of Charlton, Ashodi won`t be a household name but it`s an excellent learning curve for the young lad.

England take on host nation Germany on Saturday and then face Turkey in the Group Stages later next week.

No doubt Brendan will have his spies out in Deutschland checking out the progress of Ashodi with a view to first team action next season.
