There was no great drama at Watford`s end of season awards dinner as, just as expected, Tommy Smith and Ross Jenkins picked up the 2 big accolades of the night whilst Lloyd Doyley got the Players Player nod.
With 17 goals for the season - a career best return - Smudger Smith was nailed on to win the Hornets Player of the Season trophy and didn`t disappoint, leaving Tamas Priskin [2nd] and Lloydinho [3rd] in his wake.
As for Young Player, despite speculation that rookie keeper Scott Loach could scoop the award for his impressive performances between the sticks, it was 18 year old midfield general Ross Jenkins who hobbled off the treatment table to pick up the plaudits.
Elsewhere and the 2-0 swash-buckling home victory over the Spanish Pirates from Swansea took the Performance of the Year award - presumably pushing Stuart Attwell`s showing against Reading into second place???
And it was Grzgorz Rasiak who popped off back down to the South Coast with the Goal of the Season trophy tucked under his arm after his barn-storming effort out of nothing in the 3-2 win at the Valley.
But the big winner of the night was clearly Lloyd Doyley who completed his remarkable reversal of fortune by getting named Players Player of the Season. It all bodes well for when he runs for Mayor of Watford then in a few years time!!!
Let`s just hope that all of the winners are around after the summer to fight for the chance to regain their titles in the 2009-2010 season.
