'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Watford pave way for Poom exit

There will be tears before bedtime in Tallin this evening following news that Watford have released Estonian`s favourite footballing son, goalkeeper Mart Poom .

The former Derby, Sunderland and Arsenal stopper`s contract at Vicarage Road was due to run out in the summer but a spot of 'mutual consent` has seen the deal cut short 30 days early.

It`s no real surprise though really is it?

Poom, who`s battered and bruised aging frame has seen him sidelined for most of his 2 year stay at Watford (the pressure of carrying around that massive wage packet can`t have helped) has managed just 19 appearances between the sticks.

Even the player admits that he`s "sorry [he] couldn`t have played more games for Watford".

Ah bless.

i think you are wright doc, poom's better years are behind him now,he was pretty exceptional in his first season with us ourn's,we were top of the championship when he got that shoulder injury, its a shame it left him sidelined for all this time.he will still go down as one of the finest keepers of his time, the wright decision was made,he had to go,were does this leave richard lee?

Not a real great loss, great shot stopper but could not command his area, the defence never got any calls from him and *Shittu & demerrit suffered because of him, another defender who left us recently told me he, that it was a nightmare when he was in goal!

and as for Richard lee, i know that he has been offered another contract, but how many keepers do we need? Rodgers signed one in Jan, we have the Hungarian youngster who is looking very promising, let Lee go, he is not guaranteed first team football and since he has taken so long to sign a new contract, goodbye.
