Watford secure Loach until 2012

Watford have warned off interest from a host of Premier League big boys (and Man City) by signing up Scott Loach on a new contract until 2012.

The Hornet`s England U21 goalkeeper capped a dream season by agreeing an extension on his contract which will see him stay between the sticks at Vicarage Road for the next 3 years - despite interest from the likes of Liverpool, Newcastle and Spurs to name but 3.

Loach had 15 months left to run on his initial deal but Brendan Rodgers has been so impressed with the Young Lion in his 35 appearances this season that he has rewarded the former Lincoln trainee with improved terms.

But it`s all come as a bit of shock even to Scott - who let`s not forget was shoved out on loan to Stafford, Morecambe and Bradford 12 months - and he revealed "I didn`t expect to be signing a new contract this season".

He added "…we are going to go far and to be part of that makes me feel so wanted - I`m over the moon".

Ah bless.

A great signing and at last a goal keeper that i think can be better than Tony Coton & Andy Rankin, all the best to him, Maybe a farewell to Lee and most certainly Poom at the end of the season

good news,he has real potential, made alot of great saves this year, and making the england squad and winning his caps,a great achievmant for the lad,i would like like to see him have a great future with the ourn's,if lee does go he has been a great servant to the club, and you would not blame him to look elsewere for first team football, hard to say what will happen to poom, but we are defently in save hands with scotty.

strange that there's plenty of fans who don't rate the bg fella isn't it when he has learnt his trade well this year given the shocking state of the back 4 at times. As good as Coton and Rankin? Only time will tell but I know he is better than David James was at a similar age.

Hi Dr, Perhaps i should have said Potential, but thats how high i regard him, he has the agility of Rankin for covering the goal line and the physic of Cotton, I have read comments from others who do not rate him and then when you read other comments that they have made, they really do know little about anything lol

Good signing. He's a great young keeper who can only get better, but we need to keep things in perspective, eg he's not in the same class as Ben Foster. However neither are we!

It's funny you say that RFB as I think Loach has the 'potential' to be a darn sight better than Foster - think back to Ben's first 20 games for us - all pretty ropey indeed. Loach reminds me a lot of BF and in many ways is not that far off.

You got your wish RFB - Scott was superb again against Brum - his handling was extraordinarily class under pressure and 1 save from Bowyer in particular was worthy of us taking a point alone.

I'm away at the moment, but heard Scott was MOM - again - and we probably deserved something from the game based on our second half performance... Think we have the makings of a top six Championside squad but we'll see what happens to in the close season. Heh ho. RFB

Top 6 is a bit ambitious - we were truly appalling in the first 45 and looked a darn sight stronger in the 2nd with Rasiak up front. What it did show up is that Cork and Jenkins need more experience at Championship level. The Brum midfield completely dominated proceedings.

Fair enough Doc but it would be nice to be looking at the top half rather than bottom half. The young midfielders will obviously get better next season and it all depends on what they've got around them. We seem to have hit the wall in the past few games since getting 50 points - what's your perspective on that?

Take on board your points Dr & rfb, i think top 6 will be within our capabilities, we have seen them under perform as you say RF since we hit 50 points, but think back to Nov/Dec and the ground resembled a morgue with doom & gloom, infact it was horrible to be at the match's. See how it has turned around, now we are dissapointed not to be beating top teams, i would imagine that the team maybe mentally exhausted as well as physically, bearing in mind the youngsters having played throughout. We will not go down (famous last words) this season and with the right blend of players for next season Brendon knows who he will get and who he wants, i think we will be up there. but hey, i just wanna see the club do well.
