Duke a real hazard for Watford

With the news that Derby County are looking to squeeze the size of their 33-man squad and trim the wage bill comes the all too real possibility that high wage earners Nathan Ellington & John Eustace could well return to Vicarage Road in the summer.

Eustace, in fairness, looks less of a concern as he has started all 5 of the Rams games and was bought in by Nigel Clough so is clearly the type of player the gaffer likes but Watford might not be in such a fortunate position with flop Ellington mind you.

With money too tight to mention even the remote possibility of Duke lugging his massive salary back to WD18 will, no doubt, send shivers down the spines of the Vicarage Road money men.

The Hornets might even need to shell out another multi-million pound installment of cash they simply don`t have to West Brom as part of the ill-fated transfer agreement should the lackluster striker find his way back to Hertfordshire.

Worryingly, with a shocking return of 3 league goals in 27 league games, Ellington is 4th in the Pride Park pecking order of frontmen these days - behind Hulse, Porter and Villa - and has played just 27 minutes of Championship action in 2009!!!

Ok, so the Hornets might just be bailed out by the fact that technically he could become a free signing for Derby in the summer (especially given that, in their own words, they "paid a substantial loan fee" for him) but will they actually want him on the wage bill!

The truth of the matter is Watford certainly don`t!

It's not all doom and gloom with regards Ellington, Derby paid a big loan fee for him and are due to pay another 500k if they wanted to make it permanent. if that is the case then we would not have to pay WBA anymore money. but if we take him back, he is still a quality player and we would get more than 500k for him, i hope

i have to disagree, can not see any quality in him at all. biggest flop since ramon vega,500k,would snap that up without any hesitation. we can do much better,i think rasiak would be by far the better striker

There were a lot of people who said that Priskin is a real waste, lazy etc and whilst he is lazy, he scores goals, but he has only started scoring on a more frequent basis because of the change in the style of play, i happen to think if ellington came back in to our team, you would see a totally different player from before, because of our style of play now. True, i agree, I like Rasiak and would love the club to have him instead of Ellington, but there is a fee to be paid for Rasiak and none for Ellington except wages. so i guess its a case of wait and see

fair play,i can see your point on the wages side, but ellington let us down last season, i fill he did not want to know, and for a record signing player, that is disgracefull,he should not be given another chance. And it was not like we were in the position of this season,we were pushing for promotion.i want to see our players want to play for that shirt, commited players such as tommy mooney.we did not spend big on tommy, marlon, and i still think there are such players that can be found, the don cowie's and mike williamson's that have been real promosing, not forgetting our great youth system.like you say were just have to wait and see,but i hope we don't gamble on nathan.

at last we have some sort of debate on this site, it is a great site, but there are too many one linners and not enough constructive debate. I would like to think that Brendon knows they players he wants to bring to wfc and the ones he wants gone. The club gambled on some players that were expensive and to high wages which has nearly brought the club down. A scenario that Simspon said would never happen on his watch!! to thich he can never be forgiven. but with the current climate, what club is gonna pay good wages or even a fee for some of our rejects?

I do agree with you wrexham, but i can see Priskin moving on too, although if the money is right then no problems, I think we paid nearly a million for him and Stukgard offered nearly 2 mil for him, so a fee of 3 million would not go a miss

my biggest fear of pre-season is Tamas wanting away. If his agent really isn't bigging up his man and 12 clubs are sniffing around then we may be in for a long summer. Though quite why Hull and Fulham would be interested after a good 12 games by Priskin is unclear - don't they remember how poor he was for 18 months?

You can not blame the agent for bigging him up, he needs to justify his money, as for the Fulham link, it's gotta be poor news reporting, do tend to agree with wrexham.
