In-form Watford striker Tamas Priskin has been shortlisted for February`s Championship Player of the Month award, sponsored by Powerade…and not many of the Vicarage Road fans thought they`d see that at the start of the season!
The Hornets hitman seems to have, at last, found his rootin, tootin` scoring boots in WD18 (after presuming keeping them hidden away only for use on the U21 international scene up to the turn of the year).
And boy what a difference a big chunk of confidence can do for a player! It`s 5 goals in 6 for the Hungarian and the simple fact of the matter is that whenever Tamas has scored a league goal in 2009, Watford have won…without exception.
With 3 in 3 through February (he missed the Palace game through suspension) Priskin`s place in the Powerade 4 must be taken seriously.
Mind you, he`s up against some stiff competition (and Bristol City`s Dele Adebola).
5-goal Jason Scotland is once again penned into Chris Kamara`s final 4 after missing out in both the December and January battles but after being in Mike Williamson`s pocket for 90 minutes at the Vic then we doubt whether the Swans striker has done enough (again).
The flailing arms and elbows of 62 year old Dele Adebola are also in the running after 4 goals in 4 wins for Bristol City - impressive stats for the veteran forward but it`s hard to look much further beyond Doncaster`s Paul Heffernan for the monthly gong
Ok, so the Rovers frontman might not be hitting the net as frequently as Scotland but it`s 5 wins in 6 for Donny with Heffernan at the heart of all things good
(and, let`s face it, an award for Doncaster would be just reward for Chris Coleman`s total daylight robbery of the managers title…Sean O`Driscoll was clearly the only rightful winner).
The winner will be announced on Monday but we urge Chris Kamara and his merry band of Powerade judging panelists to give Priskin the prize!
