Blackwell loving John Joe goals

Blades boss Kevin Blackwell reckons "it`s the goals" that have had a whole host of Championship clambering over themselves for the signature of Watford midfielder John Joe O`Toole.

The out of favour Hornets midfielder sealed a move to Sheffield Utd yesterday (what is it about the lure of South Yorkshire for Watford players?) despite having a number of offers on the table to end his fall from grace under Brendan Rodgers.

But Blackwells` insistence that its all about his sharp shooting may well be sweeping O`Toole`s clear weaknesses - such as workrate, quality on the ball and decision making - under the red and white carpet.

In fact the Blades boss was probably the one holding the brush that shoved them there as he told the official Blades site "John will being energy and youthful exuberance to the centre of the midfield…He scores goals, which is why so many were trying to get him".

Blackwell quite clearly reckons he`s done well to secure the loan signing of the Republic of Ireland U21 international, who had also caught the eye of Preston by all accounts.

The Blades boss added "…there were 3 or 4 clubs in for him this time - - [O`Toole] decided he wanted to join a club looking to give it a go for promotion"…

IF Blackwell`s facts are correct that "Wolves bid £900,000 for him in September" then you`ve got to question the logic of keeping hold of O`Toole when his market price was ripe but, then again, he was a first team regular at that stage.

You only have to listen to one Blackwell interview to realise his limitations. JJ is still very much work in progress.
