Charlton did want Watford's Demerit

Contrary to what the Watford and the W`Observer led us all to believe, Charlton Athletic were chasing Jay Demerit ahead of the transfer window. In fact, the Addicks have confirmed they made enquiries about signing Captain America…

Watford told the press that they had "not received a bid from Charlton" for Demerit after Sky Sports announced that a £300k offer was tabled and whilst the club`s continual use of the "no formal offers" line appears to be true, Athletic definately put the feelers out.

Charlton boss Phil Parkinson revealed "In the week we lost [Mark] Hudson and [Jonathon] Fortune we tried to get two centre backs in. We only got on in but Jay Demerit was a player we were looking at, along with several others".

The Valley chief added "We put a call in about Demerit to see what the situation was but that was one of several calls we made".

Parkinson was obviously straight on the blower to Molineux after Charlton snapped up Darren Ward from Wolves to fill a gap in their backline. The strapping former Hornet is a player that many Watford fans would have liked to see back at Vicarage Road full time.

HAVE YOU SAY ON VITALWATFORD

* Would £300k have been a good bit of business for Watford?

Does Demerit warrant a first team shirt each week?

Should Watford have moved for Darren Ward after he impressed on loan?

Go on, unleash that Raging Horn in ya…

Stuff Ward. Might be marginally better than what we have but his time in defence this season hardly saw the goals against dry up. And he was responsible for a couple of them.

300k for Demerit, we should have snapped their hands off, Webby even you say he is not first team, so that bid was a good price, for some one who cost nothing. Ward, certainly not the answer, as Glory says was responsible for some shocking goals and i don't think he would be able to pass the wayBrenden wants the team too

Williamson is a far better player than Ward and DeMerit is needed to provide experienced cover. Not sure about £300k as size of the fee depends on his contract situation, when is it due to expire?
