Cauna snubs Premiership for Watford

Watford`s new Latvian loanee, Aleksandrs Cauna, has revealed that he turned down approaches from 2 Premier League clubs in the January window in a bid to impress at Vicarage Road.

Cauna left Skonto Riga for the hustle and bustle of Championship life with the Hornets this week despite having other offers on the table elsewhere to go on trial insisting he wanted to work with Brendan Rodgers - who had given him a run out at Chelsea.

Speaking through the W`Observer, Cauna said "When I was in Latvia my manager gave me permission to go on trial and there were two Premier League teams and two Championship teams.

The Latvian winger remains tightlipped over the 2 top division sides he snubbed but does reveal that he turned down the chance to join Bristol City just last week.

He added "'One of the Championship teams were Watford and I said that I wanted to go to Watford because I have been to other teams on trial and did not stay, so I wanted to come here to Watford because I know the manager and the manager knows me."

But the Watford gaffer will definitely need to keep his wits about him as Cauna could well be a "kiss of death" with two interested top flight managers already getting their P45 after drafting him in for a quick look.

Aleksandrs explains "I went to Sunderland in the summer for one week when Roy Keane was the manager. He asked that I come again. I went back for the second week and on the last training session, Keane was gone.

'I then went to Blackburn for four days and then Paul Ince was gone…"

Mind your back Brendan.
